We're alive and kickin'

We are on the mend. I feel better and Miya feels better. She also has 5 new teeth.

On Friday's my Dad watches Miya and he always sends me pictures of their morning after she goes down for her nap. I love that he sends me pictures of her day.

Here are two of my favs from earlier today, captions below the pics...

AZ here we come!

In one week Miya and I will be flying to Phoenix to visit her snowbird grandparents, the rest of the AZ fam, and to celebrate Chinese New Year. Uncle Dustin is meeting us there and the weather is supposed to be GREAT!

I am very excited to get away for a long warm weekend, but I am oh so NERVOUS to fly with my very active I don't ever sit still 19 month old toddler.

Just writing that sentence made me break out in a sweat.

This will be our first flight since flying home from China. This will be my first time flying alone with her.

Sweating, I'm sweating bullets now...

Still sick

Miya is still sick and now I'm sick. I have a fundraising event I am coordinating this weekend and can't be sick, but I am and now my new friend is Dayqu*il.

I can't wait until Sunday afternoon when it's all over and I can breath and just get back to our regular schedule.

Initiation

In case you were wondering, I've been initiated into the "walking the halls all night long with a sick crying baby" club.

Teething

I've decided I'm really not a fan of teething, especially those stinkin' molars that take forever to pop through and then when they finally do, watch out!

Poor Miya. Teething has been our weekend thus far. When she opens her mouth I can count 5 that are just about ready to pop thru the skin, including one of her left lower molars.

Yesterday, she ran a fever of 101.6 all day long, I alternated with motrin and tylenol as suggested by all the moms I know and still couldn't seem to get it lower than about 100 degrees. She also had diarrhea yesterday, a first since she has been home with me. So now her rear is red and sore. I can hear my brother now..gross and ewwww is what he is saying as he reads this and YES it was. Poor thing.

I gave her a bath at about 5:00p.m. last night at her request. Her request??, well it included standing at the gate at the bottom of the stairs hollering and crying on and on until I figured out she was trying to tell me something...as in she wanted to go upstairs. duh. When I opened the gate, she crawled upstairs, headed into the bathroom and tried to crawl into the tub w/ all her clothes on. Of course, she also threw her baby in there first...which I thought was pretty funny, but she really was in no mood for funny at that point.

This morning her fever is back up to 101.8. Her nose is running, she has a cough now. She gets colds when she is teething. Overall she just seems pretty miserable, cranky, and out of sorts.

I'm planning on working today, but may have to just go down to the office and gather it all up and bring it home, not sure...she cries when I leave the room. Might have to post-pone until tomorrow.

An additional kicker...my thermometer, the fancy dancy Brau*n I forked over $50 for is now stuck on the Celsius setting. I have no idea how it was switched from Fahrenheit to Celsius, but am thinking a little pair of hands got a hold of it. So, since I am horrid at math, I now have to go online and look up the conversion each time I take her temp. Sad, I know.

Mom, my nose is running....and quit blogging and pay attention to me pleaseeeee!

Have I mentioned I hate teething? I bet she really hates it. Poor Miya.

Random Miya news from yesterday

  • When I picked up Miya from childcare yesterday, her teacher mentioned that she ran around shouting "No!" and "Mine!" throughout the day. Lovely. Plus, I didn't even know she could say "mine". Ahhhh, the "two's are right around the corner.

  • While getting ready to take a bath last night, she grabbed her Fi*sher Pr*ce hammer, ran over to the wall and started hammering away. I immediately thought who taught this girl construction management?

  • She now likes to drink her bath water. sigh.

  • When I asked her if she was ready to get out of the tub, she shook her head no - for the first time!

Grams and Gramps w/ the kiddos

Awwwww, cute!

Is grandpa Mike playing this little piggy with Thomas?

Is Jackson memorized by this little piggy or what?

I love seeing Miya snuggled up with her Grandma. :-)

Miya Mei

Last week was a crazy one. I went back to work after the holiday break :-( and Miya's child care facility was closed for the week (they follow the academic schedule). Fortunetly, between grandparents and her aunt Lexi, child care for Miya wasn't an issue.

Grandma and Grandpa from AZ were here to visit as well!! One day they took the kids to jumpalot and I was sure to put the camera in the bag with strict instructions to take pictures so I could see all the fun they had and I missed (man, I really do hate having to work).

Here they all are, having ooodles of fun at the jump place.

This pic makes me laugh...Thomas looks MAD!

On Friday, Miya had her follow-up heart dr. appointment. All is well and the device inside her heart plugging up the area that needed to be plugged is where it's supposed to be. Yay! We'll have one more follow-up in about 8 months. While we were waiting for the Dr. to come in the room, Miya surprised me by saying a new word. I swear, she is saying a new one everyday...it's pretty cute!

This little video was made while we were in the examination room...

On Saturday, my little peanut turned 19 months old! She is growing like a weed and is now wearing mostly 2T clothes...I am still amazed at how fast kids grow!!

My New Years Resolutions...I mean goals

I hate New Years resolutions, they usually last about as long as it takes for me to think them up. Sooooo, this year I've decided to implement goals for the year 2009. They are:

1) Incorporate more whole grains into our diet. So far, this hasn't been hard to do as I don't buy much of the "white" stuff. I did buy whole grain spaghetti and mac and cheese the other day and am now addicted to Sara Lee's heart healthy fiber rich whole wheat bread. Yum.

2) Exercise more, I mean start exercising.

3) Spend more time with my friend S, you know who you are :-) Sorry you got in a car wreck last night friend, glad you are ok! I miss my friend S. We are both BUSY moms and it's been hard to find the time to see each other on a regular basis.

4) Start a new hobby! Photography! I've always wanted to and plan to use a bit of my tax refund to purchase a fancy new camera.

5) Learn photoshop to go along with my soon to be new love of photography.

I'm stopping there, sheesh...don't want to overwhelm myself or anything....

6 months a family!!

We've hit the 6 month mark and I feel like we are finally finding our stride as a family. Becoming a mom has been a crazy adjustment, one that I thought would be a bit easier - epecially since I have been around children my whole life and I really like them and am good with them (how's that for a run on sentence?). Yeah, not so much. It's been a tough adjustment for me. Not sure why, but it has.

I also just spent 2 weeks (holiday break) pretending I was a stay-at-home mom (so fun!) and I have to tell you I saw major changes in Miya with regards to bonding and attachment. I feel like something within us both has clicked and it's good. Again, we all know (AP's out there) that bonding and attachment is a PROCESS, so it's not like I'm saying "ok, all done. we're bonded." I just feel like it's all coming along as it should and I am VERY thankful it is.

So, here we are at yet another milestone, an important date. 6 months a family!! Yay!!

Welcome!

Happy New Year!!

To start off the new year, I've decided to start a new blog. Huckleberries and Rice was about my journey to Miya and now that she is home well, I just kind of feel like we need a new blog. At some point, I'll either figure out how to fancy it all up OR I'll hire someone to do it for me (any suggestions? Heather? Are you still in business?)

So, welcome to the new blog and the chronicles of Miya and Sara's life together. :-)

Now, go update your bookmarks, favorites, bloglines, etc. cause this is where you'll find us now!
